How to Add Statistics for Generative Engine Optimisation
Adding statistics for generative engine optimisation means using accurate, clearly sourced numerical evidence to strengthen website content, improve trust and support AI answer engine retrieval.
In this transcript, Paul Rowe, Founder, Chief Generative Engine Optimisation Officer & CEO at NeuralAdX Ltd, explains how to add statistics to website content so AI systems can understand the claim, verify the source and connect the statistic to a clear answer.
What This Video Explains
How to add statistics to website content in a way that supports GEO, source grounding and AI-readable evidence.
Why Statistics Matter
AI systems can understand and validate numerical claims more easily when the statistic, source, date and citation link are clearly included.
Best Use Case
Use this guidance when adding research data, benchmark results, industry studies and numerical evidence to GEO content.
What Does Adding Statistics Mean in Generative Engine Optimisation?
Adding statistics in generative engine optimisation means placing accurate numerical evidence inside your content with clear attribution, contextual explanation and a visible source link. The aim is to make the claim easier for users and AI systems to understand, verify and trust.
For AI answer engines, a statistic becomes stronger when the page explains what the number means, where it came from, who produced the data, when it was published and how it supports the answer being given.
For the wider foundation behind this process, read the main Generative Engine Optimisation explainer page.
The Main Statistic Signals Covered in This Tutorial
This tutorial explains several statistic signals that can help strengthen website content for generative engine optimisation:
- Use a clear H2 question or answerable content section.
- Answer the question directly before expanding the explanation.
- Use statistics from reputable sources such as government agencies, academic sources or recognised industry experts.
- Check the statistic carefully before publishing it.
- Name the source of the statistic clearly in the sentence.
- Include the relevant number, percentage, sample size or study detail.
- Reference the publication date or study date where possible.
- Add an in-text citation or APA-style reference.
- Link the citation to the original source so users and AI systems can verify it.
Why Statistics Support Generative Engine Optimisation
Statistics support generative engine optimisation because they turn general claims into measurable evidence. A properly sourced statistic gives AI systems more confidence about what the page is claiming and where that claim came from.
A strong GEO page should not make important claims without support. It should connect useful answers to reputable data, industry research, academic findings, government information or measured benchmark evidence. This makes the content easier to validate and more useful for AI answer generation.
This is why statistics should work alongside other GEO signals such as citations, quotations, author authority, source quality and entity clarity. You can see evidence-led GEO in action through the live proof that Generative Engine Optimisation works and the AI Citation Benchmark.

Hello, it’s Paul Rowe, Founder, Chief Generative Engine Optimisation Officer & CEO at NeuralAdX Ltd.
I’m going to run through how to add statistics to your website for generative engine optimisation.
If we put our focus onto the screen now, I’m going to take you over to my WordPress website.
I have set up a construction here where, most likely, you would have constructed an H2 title in question format.
This is ideal for AI generative engines because, in essence, you are creating grounded content, which is what they are looking for.
In this example, I am proposing the question: where should I place my content to be seen?
Obviously, we want to provide an answer to the user of the website, but at the same time we want to bring in statistics, which is the theme of this video.
If I then go onto the internet and propose the question around the biggest source of AI Mode citations, it will bring up some useful references.
Key information to know straight away is that we are looking for statistics that derive from either a government agency, academic origin or industry experts.
These are the top three source types that AI generative engines have the highest regard for.
If we scroll down, I can see SEMrush has published an article on the most cited domains in AI.
It is a three-month study.
Let’s find their AI Mode conclusion.
Scrolling down, there we are: Google AI Mode.
If we look at their data, we can see that, based on a SEMrush study of 230,000 prompts conducted in October 2025, LinkedIn, with nearly 15% of the citation share, is clearly the number one source for AI Mode.
With this being the case, and knowing that SEMrush is well known and respected in its industry, we can use them as a strong reference for a statistic.
I am now copying the link to this website study that they have published, and I am going back to the website.
With that data, I would then propose a response as follows:
According to SEMrush, with nearly 15% of the citation share, LinkedIn was the number one citation source for Google AI Mode from their study carried out in October 2025.
They derived this data from a test pool of 230,000 prompts.
The statistic, nearly 15%, has been put in there.
We have SEMrush, which is the industry expert, so all green lights here.
We just need to finish it off by adding the citation for the statistic that we are referencing.
As always with citations in AI generative engines, it wants to be in APA format, the American Psychological Association’s format, because AI generative engines have a preference for APA-style citations because they are easier for them to parse.
Following APA style, we would put the name of the study author.
In this example, it is SEMrush.
It was a blog, so let’s be specific and put SEMrush Blog, then a comma, and then the date it was published, which is 2025.
Let me double-check that to be thorough.
Yes, November 10th, 2025.
You have to be thorough on these things because AI is normally very accurate.
If you give even the slightest inaccuracy, it may note it, and that does not go in your favour.
It is very important to have high alertness and awareness at all times when implementing statistics or quotations because AI generative engines are very precise.
Back to the citation.
We have put in the name.
We then want to insert the link into that.
I have pasted the link in and saved it.
Then I want to underline it to make sure it is visibly hyperlinked, so the viewer of the website can see it and click the source.
More importantly, the AI generative engine parsing the page can pick up the source, so the content is grounded.
With that construction, it is much more likely to use it as a citation.
Without the link to the citation, you are not going to get cited. Simple as that.
Then I want to put the correct colour, which for my brand is teal.
That is completed, and then I would simply save and publish.
That is one brief example of how you would add a statistic to your website for generative engine optimisation.
There are more in-depth technical versions that you can apply, which would increase your likelihood of getting noticed more by AI engines.
But for now, this is to give help for the future, everyday business owner and online marketer who is quite confused about exactly how they are supposed to implement statistics.
This can give you a strong foundation of what you need to do.
Any queries or any questions, feel free to ask me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much, and I will see you in the next one.
Key Takeaways from This Statistics Tutorial
- Statistics for GEO should be accurate, relevant and linked to a reputable source.
- Government agencies, academic sources and recognised industry experts are strong sources for statistics.
- A statistic should support a clear answer, not sit on the page without context.
- The source of the statistic should be named clearly in the content.
- Important details such as date, sample size and study context make the statistic stronger.
- APA-style citation can help make the reference easier to identify and parse.
- The citation should link back to the original source where possible.
- Visible hyperlinks help users verify the evidence and help AI systems detect source grounding.
- Well-structured statistics can improve content credibility, evidence quality and AI readability.
How Statistics Help AI Search Visibility
Statistics help AI search visibility because they provide measurable evidence that supports a page’s claims. When a statistic is clearly explained, attributed and linked to a source, AI systems have more context to understand and validate the information.
This is why statistics should not be added loosely. For GEO, a statistic is a practical evidence signal. It helps AI answer engines connect the page to a specific data point, a recognised source and a verifiable claim.
