The deliberate structuring of content into self-contained, retrievable sections that AI systems can independently extract and cite.
Video Transcript
Let me help you with the definition of content decomposition.
So it is as follows.
Content decomposition is the deliberate structuring of content into self-contained, retrievable sections that AI systems can independently extract, interpret, and cite as standalone answers.
So I’m going to give you an example here that I’ve written down, just to put this into clearer context for your understanding.
So if we can conceptualise that you’re on your website and you’ve written the following paragraph:
To improve local search, claim your Google Business Profile, ensure your NAP—name, address, and phone number—is consistent across platforms, and encourage customer reviews.
So then, if we go back to our website and we apply content decomposition to that paragraph, we would restructure it as follows.
Bullet point one:
First, claim and fully optimise your Google Business Profile to appear in local search results.
Bullet point two:
Next, ensure your business name, address, and phone number are consistent everywhere online.
Bullet point three:
Finally, encourage customer reviews, as they increase local trust signals and local ranking performance.
So what you can see there is that instead of one bulk paragraph, you’ve broken the information down into three modular, self-contained content blocks.
Each of these individual sections can now be independently lifted, retrieved, and presented by AI systems as a direct answer to a user’s specific query.
And that, essentially, is content decomposition.
If you’d like to learn more about this topic within generative engine optimisation, you can follow the link below this video. That will take you to our website, where we break this down further inside our GEO Skills Hub and our AI platform optimisation guides.
I hope this information has been helpful, and I look forward to seeing you in the next one.
Thank you very much. Bye-bye.
