Welcome back. In this video, I’m going to provide the definition of attribution confidence. I’ll explain what it means, and then I’ll share some resources that will help you apply it to your website.
The definition is as follows. Attribution confidence is the probability that a generative engine will explicitly name or link to a source based on clarity of ownership, authority signals, and ease of attribution. To explain this clearly, it can be broken down into three core sections.
First is clarity of ownership. This is established by implementing an author bio page on your website. That page should include your name, the specific area of work you specialise in, your credentials, and evidence of past work you have completed.
This information helps AI systems clearly understand who owns the content and who is responsible for it.
Second are authority signals. These are established through several factors. For example, when making factual statements, you should include citations at the end to support your claims. Authority signals also include backlinks from well-established websites pointing to your website.
Another factor, which has already been mentioned, is author bios, as these also feed into authority signals. In addition, topical depth plays an important role. This refers to how much detail you go into within your area of expertise.
These are not all of the possible authority signals. There are many more, and it isn’t practical to cover every single one here. However, these are some of the most effective and impactful signals based on experience.
Third is ease of attribution. This refers to how easy it is for AI engines to identify, extract, and reuse your content as part of an answer. First and foremost, your content must directly answer a user’s query.
AI engines generally prefer content that is structured using short paragraphs, bullet point lists, and tables. These formats make information easier to extract, understand, and attribute.
Together, these three elements explain what is required to achieve strong attribution confidence.
If you’d like resources on how to implement attribution confidence on your website, you’ll find a link below this video. It will take you to our website, where we have a GEO Skills Hub and an AI platform optimisation guide. If you apply this information correctly, you will achieve attribution confidence.
If you have any questions on this topic, leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you very much for watching, and I look forward to seeing you in the next video. Goodbye.
Attribution confidence depends on AI systems being able to clearly identify which entity is responsible for an answer. Learn how entity disambiguation ensures AI engines correctly resolve and name the right source before attributing content.
