Hello and welcome back. In this video, I’m going to do three things.
First, I’m going to provide the definition of AI citation benchmarking.
Second, I’m going to share my own empirical experience.
And third, I’m going to explain what you can do to set up your own AI citation benchmarking.
So, if we now focus on the screen, the definition is as follows.
AI citation benchmarking is the systematic measurement and comparison of how often, and where, a brand or website is cited across multiple generative AI platforms, used to track GEO performance over time.
Now, moving on to my own experience.
We use an AI citation tracking software called Otterly AI. I selected this software based on my research, as it had a very good reputation and was reasonably priced.
Within this software, it enables you to compare your company against up to five competitors. We deliberately compared ourselves against the highest competition in the market, to ensure we are doing everything possible to come out on top in our industry.
This software allows for detailed comparison of how often and where a brand or website is cited across multiple generative AI platforms, enabling ongoing tracking of GEO performance over time.
Specifically, it allows you to compare citation performance across four platforms: ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview. This makes it extremely useful for understanding where your company stands on each platform compared to competitors, particularly from a business owner’s perspective.
Now, translating this into what you can do for your own AI citation benchmarking is essentially to replicate what I’ve done, with one important stipulation.
You do not need to use Otterly AI. We are not affiliated with them in any way, shape, or form.
It is simply a software package that we use based on our own research. There are many alternative tools available that offer similar functionality. The dashboards in these platforms are generally very straightforward, so it’s not something you need to feel intimidated by.
